Tired but pleased

Ok, so maybe Im not THIS tired but Im close!

If I dont go to bed by 930 on school nights I mess up my week. If I start out that way, I can slack off as the week progresses. Its already Monday and I have Salsa tomorrow night so I HAVE TO get to sleep early (not just on time) tonite to catch up. Noone wants to know the sleepy me:

TODAY:

  • Productive! yaaaaaaaay me!
  • Was able to have a good center time and my math group did very well with our activity and made it to the end even though some of them were itching to go to another table.
  • The fruit and vegetable market is khalas and now we have the "animal hospital". Easier to pronounce than veterinarian. Easier to spell too, lol.
  • Changed out some of the student work
  • My teacher talked about how the kids are progressing and shes happy about their progress. She also said she told her friends about how Im always working and changing things in the room to keep the kids interested
  • One of the girls gave me a thumbs up after checking out the new dramatic play area
  • My teacher gave me this yummy thing that was kind of like a vegetable roll but not a roll.idk but it was GOOD
  • My homemade playdough was successful thanks to a fellow teacher who gave me the perfect-PERFECT- recipe that easy so easy. You place all ingredients in the microwave and heat.In less than 5 mins you have perfectly good playdough.
Now Im home after an unsuccessful attempt to obtain my insurance card. I wont even go into that.Im going to cook dinner and play a game or two of darts.Maybe even check for any new episodes of CSI.

Salsa soiree tomorrow
Maya island Friday afternoon
possibly hip hop night Thursday night
anniversay AND birthday coming up

Turning Tides

6 months ago I wasn't to happy with my situation. I was feeling stifled in terms of teaching time and a  host of other things and my main focus in life was to get OUT.  I must say that the year has progressed rather nicely and Im not feeling the same way about the year. Thanks to my coteacher, who understands what the kids need and provides those things even when someone says otherwise,we  are having a great year! I can't say that I would feel this way with another teacher. Our classroom runs smoothly and the kids are self sufficient. Today, two kids decided to make a book in the science center. The books were pre made with the title and had two pages for them to draw animals or write. They were provided with real pictures of animals to choose from and had been given instructions previously about their options (to draw animals they saw at the zoo, animals from the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or to use the pictures if necessary). We also started this week putting ...

Testyyyyyy

I sit here watching HGTV and typing away on my computer. Ive been doing this for days now. Apartment is pretty much empty and the hubby is there getting rid of the last few things before working one last weekend and coming home. People ask if Im excited yet and I dont think that it has hit me quite yet. I mean, I am excited but not like I will be when I get the ticket, or even when I get ready to board the plane, or especially when I finally get on Etihad!!! My legs are propped over my knee roller, which I got (again) today for the last stretch of this whole cast situation. Its cool and Im thankful to be healing properly and relaxing at home not doing too much of anything. I have awhile before I am forced to condence one last time before the final move. I am not looking forward to that task. I write before my departure with the next group in mind. I spent months reading about the experience of others and researching any and everything I could about Abu Dhabi and the UAE. Out of eve...

When in Rome

There are some things that, while you are doing them, make you think:"I would never do this in my country". Like the other day when I couldnt take it anymore and went to get water to drink bc its nasty in my apt (and, yes,Ive had the water in other places and it was fine). Anyway, it wasnt late but it was dark. The corner store is literally a minute outside my door. On the way back I walked to see if the internet cafe was open. An older man asked if I was looking for the pharmacy. I wasnt. He motioned and asked me to sit after he asked me where I was from and I told him. He was extremely nice and the first 5 mins consisted of a conversation in my head about how things like this work here. He talked about how proud they are to have us here and that Americans are treated with a different kind of respect. He talked about how nowhere else will you see so many Nationalities in a matter of minutes no matter where you are. He talked about work and leisure and told me about his resta...
