off to a great start

well, not my first week with the kids because i went to bed late ONE night and Ive been off all week. Not to mention that my car being serviced is taking an entire week so Im back to carpooling (which I didnt include in my budget and riding in and out of tourist club daily is killing it!!). Yes, I just got the car but after driving it for a week, there were some things I needed them to look at and its under warranty so its all good.

Anyway...the first day (and week) has started off slowly. At least for me because I dont have new aka screaming kids. My class of kids is used to a routine and they listen and my coteacher is very good at teaching the kids. I am ever so happy in the class :-). Today she worked up a sweat changing things in the room and thats a great thing. The collaboration is good but I like it better when more ideas and coming from her in this regard because thats what we are here for,to facilitate the thought. Whereas before they were told how the rooms were to be and now they are figuring it out-how it will work best, center placement, room structure, what will or wont work, etc. I had to leave her today because I was carpooling but Ill be interested to see it tomorrow. And so will the kids because its TOTALLY different than it was last year or at the beginning of this year even.

Im ready to start teaching. Things wont be so easy next week though as we will be getting kids from another school that has closed. Who knows how these kids will feel about all of this going on. I dont even know if they went to school last year. It will be quite interesting. Its ok that it wont be that easy, challenges can be good.

And speaking of challenges. Ive been trying to help the kg1 teachers with any info I have as well as some resources. Its cool to have so many heads together instead of there just being a small group of us. I hope it will feel more like a team with all of us and that it will be more cohesive this year on all parts.

Im thinking of doing OOTD videos for here but of work outfits, lol. It would just be to showcase the Jalabiyas because there are so many questions about what they look like and if they are appropriate for school.Maybe when my connection stops being so sloooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww.

Testyyyyyy

I sit here watching HGTV and typing away on my computer. Ive been doing this for days now. Apartment is pretty much empty and the hubby is there getting rid of the last few things before working one last weekend and coming home. People ask if Im excited yet and I dont think that it has hit me quite yet. I mean, I am excited but not like I will be when I get the ticket, or even when I get ready to board the plane, or especially when I finally get on Etihad!!! My legs are propped over my knee roller, which I got (again) today for the last stretch of this whole cast situation. Its cool and Im thankful to be healing properly and relaxing at home not doing too much of anything. I have awhile before I am forced to condence one last time before the final move. I am not looking forward to that task. I write before my departure with the next group in mind. I spent months reading about the experience of others and researching any and everything I could about Abu Dhabi and the UAE. Out of eve...

Turning Tides

6 months ago I wasn't to happy with my situation. I was feeling stifled in terms of teaching time and a  host of other things and my main focus in life was to get OUT.  I must say that the year has progressed rather nicely and Im not feeling the same way about the year. Thanks to my coteacher, who understands what the kids need and provides those things even when someone says otherwise,we  are having a great year! I can't say that I would feel this way with another teacher. Our classroom runs smoothly and the kids are self sufficient. Today, two kids decided to make a book in the science center. The books were pre made with the title and had two pages for them to draw animals or write. They were provided with real pictures of animals to choose from and had been given instructions previously about their options (to draw animals they saw at the zoo, animals from the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or to use the pictures if necessary). We also started this week putting ...

Pack Light?

I cant, in good conscience, tell you not to pack manips and such on your journey here. As with everything in life, there are pros and cons. There are also solutions to problems. problem : it costs a lot to pay for another luggage it costs more to send for it or to have to buy it over here con: They could already have these items in your school, then you brought these things for nothing real con: they dont have it and you didnt bring it :-( solution: (a)you have materials for your class that are enough for you to create workable centers and dont have to divide items up between classes or sign it out. (b)you no longer need these materials and can sell them for a profit   problem: I dont know what Ill be able to wear at school solution: now this is something you actually CAN wait for! long skirts abound here (if youre not too "big"). Be careful of the sizes and try everything on.Itll save you a headache later. Bring a couple things just in case. Remember that you may dec...
