Highlights of my week

I had my Kindle in class and the kids were confused as to what it was. I told them book and knew that wouldnt go over well, lol. Then I said " ebook" (still confusion), "uuuum, computer book" (she looks at the computer then at my kindle, more confusion. "teacher, in Arabi, Ipad?" I cant help but laugh. "sweetie, Ipad is English ok? But with no other explanation to give I say, " In Arabi, this is a Kindle".
lol, they are so funny.

Im literally getting tackle hugged throughout the day by the one and only Maitha who runs head first into me exclaiming, "I LOVE YOU TEN, I LOVE YOU TEN, I LOVE YOU TEEEEEEEEEEEN!". Im on guard now so that I can protect myself from internal injuries.

Salma exclaims in a sentence "Teacher, me love English", while "reading" a book. I love that she loves English and her smile is contagious.

One of my low kids in particular seems to really enjoy math. He is one of the first to answer questions when we are doing subtraction. Im so happy for him. Add to that the fact that adding and subtraction couldnt even be taught last year so we are making major progress in my eyes with these little ones.

I had an order for a cake and the people came from Al Ain to get it. That makes me happy inside knowing they like the cake THAT much :-).

I had a hands of class this week in photog. It wasnt easy but a step in the right direction. It was fun and something that could really go somewhere. Definitely challenging.

Got my braces tightened and I can still chew. Not so bad. But hope Im not jinxing it!!

School's almost over. We will have about a month with no kids and then about a 6 week break to which Ill be doing absolutely nothing. I wish I could hire a personal trainer for that time.

And what would the week be without some lo-lights,lol.

One who shall remain nameless was mad because I wouldnt let her color so she called me a kelba. The worst thing you could call someone here. My students told on her, of course. She is too grown for her own good. If her mother could speak English I would call her!

what is a kelba?
a dog. (*_*)

My car's AC needed more than a hose so they will have had it for a week before I get it back. They are replacing the unit. I guess the only downside is that I have to taxi to a ride in the morn. Have a ride home in the afternoon. Plus Ill have a new AC system (which I pray is very cold). So maybe this could go in the top half of this post, haha.

schools almost over and Ill miss my kids. Each and every one of those boogers.

It's That Time Again

Transfer time. I requested a transfer AND interviewed in a neighboring county. I even had an in (maybe) with a Teacher of the Year at a pretty good school that was about 15 mins from my house and brand new. I was hopeful but never too excited. May 5th is the last day to hear back and my district doesn't prioritize updating parts of their webpage so no job updates. Meanwhile, I know where I stand with the other county because they update their job posts as jobs are filled. Yet another reason their county is better than ours. But I digress... I was never an optimistic person so from the jump, I figured my teammates would get transferred even though I was ready to get out as soon as I got there. It looks like we will all be there so I'm not getting any kind of shakeup. I began to wonder what God has planned for me. Why can't I get out? My resume shows my experience and work ethic and I have great references. This place has taken me places even moving across the world to te...

Turning Tides

6 months ago I wasn't to happy with my situation. I was feeling stifled in terms of teaching time and a  host of other things and my main focus in life was to get OUT.  I must say that the year has progressed rather nicely and Im not feeling the same way about the year. Thanks to my coteacher, who understands what the kids need and provides those things even when someone says otherwise,we  are having a great year! I can't say that I would feel this way with another teacher. Our classroom runs smoothly and the kids are self sufficient. Today, two kids decided to make a book in the science center. The books were pre made with the title and had two pages for them to draw animals or write. They were provided with real pictures of animals to choose from and had been given instructions previously about their options (to draw animals they saw at the zoo, animals from the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or to use the pictures if necessary). We also started this week putting ...

Moving on Up!!

So I was too tired to write about the adventure I had in trying to find our apartment. As there are no street addresses here people give ONLY landmarks and tell you which lights to go through,to,past and which to turn at. Even though Im not one to remember streed signs it can be quite confusing and I now know that having the street signs helps a bit. Whenever I do decide to get a car, I will definitely get a GPS. Im surprised that the keys didnt burn a hole in my pocket last night and I slept rather well. It helped that the night before I only got a few hours of sleep. Ok, so After school today, which was the first day,I couldnt wait to get hold of Rachel after Id gotten directions again. We were most pleasantly surrpised to find it. We knew we'd passed and/or seen it as we searched yesterday and it was (as he said) green, lol. If I could come up with a gripe, it would be that the rooms are a little small and have no wardrobes BUT that isnt an issue at all for me. I am most pl...
