To Do

I havent been blogging as much but things are still going on. I have pics, once more, that should have BEEN posted...

More importantly, I have WORK to do. unlike many days where I finish it AT work, lol. Thats one major difference here though not sure thatll last forever-or at least the time I am here. We are set to turn in portfolios to be reviewed by someone, not sure who. And I started one upon arrival but stopped because things werent in place for me to do one. Im used to doing one and basically it shows that you are actually doing your job-or at least its SUPPOSED to.

Changes are trickling in. Sometimes it feels like its pouring in. Like before they were knocking but noone was opening the door but now it is and,at least at my school, its welcomed by the LTs...I suppose. Maybe I should only speak for myself :-).

One of my KG1 teachers says that she enjoys when I come to her class because I bring center activities and the kids learn. It made me feel good to hear that. Her class is very well managed and she has a calm demeaner. I hope to work with her next year. But before I get ahead of myself these are some things that need to happen so that we will have a better year next year:

  • long range plans
  • Arabic PDs about the new curriculum
  • our Arabic HOF, word is that we should be getting them (fingers crossed)
  • MATERIALS/SUPPLIES...that are reusable
  • smaller classes (has been *confirmed*)
  • a new schedule
hmmm. . .I think thats all for now that I can think of.

My kids blow me kisses when they leave. Now they say "bye" instead of Ma Salama. My most improved student is so excited in the morning to tell me good morning in English. He smiles so  big and is so excited to learn. In the beginning, I thought he would drive. me.CRAZY! ha ha. I wish I could talk to his mom and tell her about his progress.
Most of the kids have progressed. We see it and the Arabic teachers see it as well.  I just hope my kids will be better prepared for 1st grade and many of us feel that time is running out. Theres time, and unlike some who tend to relax as time goes on, I will continue to work on those basic things and hope that their little brains are catching it and soaking it up!
Now I must go and work on my To Do list

It's That Time Again

Transfer time. I requested a transfer AND interviewed in a neighboring county. I even had an in (maybe) with a Teacher of the Year at a pretty good school that was about 15 mins from my house and brand new. I was hopeful but never too excited. May 5th is the last day to hear back and my district doesn't prioritize updating parts of their webpage so no job updates. Meanwhile, I know where I stand with the other county because they update their job posts as jobs are filled. Yet another reason their county is better than ours. But I digress... I was never an optimistic person so from the jump, I figured my teammates would get transferred even though I was ready to get out as soon as I got there. It looks like we will all be there so I'm not getting any kind of shakeup. I began to wonder what God has planned for me. Why can't I get out? My resume shows my experience and work ethic and I have great references. This place has taken me places even moving across the world to te...

Turning Tides

6 months ago I wasn't to happy with my situation. I was feeling stifled in terms of teaching time and a  host of other things and my main focus in life was to get OUT.  I must say that the year has progressed rather nicely and Im not feeling the same way about the year. Thanks to my coteacher, who understands what the kids need and provides those things even when someone says otherwise,we  are having a great year! I can't say that I would feel this way with another teacher. Our classroom runs smoothly and the kids are self sufficient. Today, two kids decided to make a book in the science center. The books were pre made with the title and had two pages for them to draw animals or write. They were provided with real pictures of animals to choose from and had been given instructions previously about their options (to draw animals they saw at the zoo, animals from the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or to use the pictures if necessary). We also started this week putting ...

Moving on Up!!

So I was too tired to write about the adventure I had in trying to find our apartment. As there are no street addresses here people give ONLY landmarks and tell you which lights to go through,to,past and which to turn at. Even though Im not one to remember streed signs it can be quite confusing and I now know that having the street signs helps a bit. Whenever I do decide to get a car, I will definitely get a GPS. Im surprised that the keys didnt burn a hole in my pocket last night and I slept rather well. It helped that the night before I only got a few hours of sleep. Ok, so After school today, which was the first day,I couldnt wait to get hold of Rachel after Id gotten directions again. We were most pleasantly surrpised to find it. We knew we'd passed and/or seen it as we searched yesterday and it was (as he said) green, lol. If I could come up with a gripe, it would be that the rooms are a little small and have no wardrobes BUT that isnt an issue at all for me. I am most pl...
