Eateries

Call me crazy but many restaurants here are a bit too authentic for my American palette. Yesterday we ate a heavy lunch so for dinner I wanted something light. Being that Im far from being a sushi guru, I chose a place that Id been to before that had pretty good sushi. No such luck as they are closed...probably because Al Wahda hotel has yet to get a liquor license so I dont know how well the other restaurants are doing but they should be having specials to make up for that.

So we go home to regroup and figure out what we were going to do. We decided on Sho Cho and had a nice comfy seat outside and all was well except for the menu as most of their choices are not cooked. Those that were had a base that I didnt really want. Part of me wanted to try something new but the other part wanted something I knew Id enjoy.

So we end up at Meat Co. The LAST place I shouldve been when you take into account my previous meal. I had a burger and fry and ended up taking the bread off halfway through to eat the burger. It was good...we'd been there before...I probably shouldve had the chicken as its very good but I said Id get the burger next time I went. Oh well.

Turning Tides

6 months ago I wasn't to happy with my situation. I was feeling stifled in terms of teaching time and a  host of other things and my main focus in life was to get OUT.  I must say that the year has progressed rather nicely and Im not feeling the same way about the year. Thanks to my coteacher, who understands what the kids need and provides those things even when someone says otherwise,we  are having a great year! I can't say that I would feel this way with another teacher. Our classroom runs smoothly and the kids are self sufficient. Today, two kids decided to make a book in the science center. The books were pre made with the title and had two pages for them to draw animals or write. It's That Time Again

Transfer time. I requested a transfer AND interviewed in a neighboring county. I even had an in (maybe) with a Teacher of the Year at a pretty good school that was about 15 mins from my house and brand new. I was hopeful but never too excited. May 5th is the last day to hear back and my district doesn't prioritize updating parts of their webpage so no job updates. Meanwhile, I know where I stand with the other county because they update their job posts as jobs are filled. Yet another reason their county is better than ours. But I digress... I was never an optimistic person so from the jump, I figured my teammates would get transferred even though I was ready to get out as soon as I got there. It looks like we will all be there so I'm not getting any kind of shakeup. I began to wonder what God has planned for me. Why can't I get out? Moving on Up!!

So I was too tired to write about the adventure I had in trying to find our apartment. As there are no street addresses here people give ONLY landmarks and tell you which lights to go through,to,past and which to turn at. Even though Im not one to remember streed signs it can be quite confusing and I now know that having the street signs helps a bit. Whenever I do decide to get a car, I will definitely get a GPS. Im surprised that the keys didnt burn a hole in my pocket last night and I slept rather well. It helped that the night before I only got a few hours of sleep. Ok, so After school today, which was the first day,I couldnt wait to get hold of Rachel after Id gotten directions again. We were most pleasantly surrpised to find it.
